Hengistbury Head

View from Hengistbury Head

This is a good place to walk now that the heather has come into flower. On a sunny day, blue sky, blue sea, yellow beaches and the purple of the heather make the views superb. The Isle of Wight is to the east, Christchurch Harbour and the Priory to the north, Bournemouth Bay and Old Harry Rocks to the west.

For a nine mile walk you can start from Bournemouth Pier and walk east to Hengistbury Head then take the ferry to Mudeford Quay. From here walk to Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve, then through this past the visitor centre and on to Christchurch.

For a five mile walk start from Christchurch and walk to Hengistbury Head over the top and back to Christchurch along the shore by the south side of the natural harbour.
