Rain fell but was a minor inconvenience compared with the traffic jam we encountered on the return journey. A lorry fire on the M27 delayed us two hours. Up till then the day had gone well apart from our having to cross two unexpectedly flooded sections of the footpath on Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve in the afternoon. The sensible took off their shoes and socks and waded through. The others, somewhat optimistically, tried to jump across via tussocks of grass. Most ended up in the water.
There was one injury as a result of the jumping but, fortunately, the person managed to limp with assistance to a road and take a taxi the remaining mile back to the coach.
