Hydon’s Ball circular 5.5 miles

There were 18 on today’s morning walk. One person brought her three grandchildren; they ran up slopes like we did years ago and markedly lowered the average age in the group.

We started from Hydon’s Ball NT car park, headed west on footpaths to reach Hambledon Road, walked on a bridleway through West Surrey golf course to Water Lane, turned left here and walked along the lane to a footpath on the left that crossed Enton Field. Passing the pond on our left we continued to Hambledon Common and stopped for a break by the bench. The heather was in flower and looked good.

From here we stayed on the Greensand Way to Hambledon church and then branched off to walk through Fourteen Acre Copse and on to the top of Hydon’s Ball. Just as we set off downhill to head for the car park, heavy rain started, but by the time we’d put on our waterproof jackets it had stopped.
