Our walks provide exercise and the opportunity for a chat, for people to air their triumphs and tribulations.
S, invited to a leaving party, had been asked to bring a cake. Someone hearing the request had remarked that her contribution was bound to be from a shop. Goaded by this comment, S, who hadn’t baked a cake for years, determined to make one and selected a recipe from an old cook book. She made a practice cake and tried it out on a neighbour. It met with approval. Heartened by this, S baked another for the event and took it along.
Half an hour after the start of the party, several cakes remained but, to S’s delight, not a crumb of her cake was left.
