Checked the route of the walk I’m leading on Sunday (September 7). Perfect conditions today: sunshine, not too hot, dry underfoot, good views. Paths had been cleared of bracken, nettles and brambles; rickety stiles had been replaced by kissing gates.
In the village (Finchdean) where we stop for lunch is a small enclosure with benches, the pound, where those bringing picnics can sit. Opposite, on the other side of the road, is the pub (The George Inn) which serves good food including sandwiches and chips on Sundays.
Near the end of the walk (9.64 miles) is the Pavilion Tea Room, Stansted Park, one of the best I know. A stop here will be mandatory for me. Those who prefer not to stop can carry on to the car park; it’s easy to find.
Start: the Slip car park, Stansted Park, Grid Ref SU753103, PO9 6DU
Time: 10.00 hr
