Checked the route of the morning walk I’m leading before our New Year lunch. Had decided that four miles is plenty as it gives people time to change and chat before the meal.
Unfortunately, I’ll have to alter the route because not only was it 5.75 miles, it included a section across a common (Bagmoor Common) so overgrown with small trees, shrubs and long grass that the views were obscured and the footpath was barely wide enough for one foot, let alone two feet or two people. The area was dull (I was glad to reach open ground) and in January on the walk my chance of wandering into a bog or losing someone could be high. Even if there was no rain but vegetation was wet we’d get soaked.
