Closure of pubs is a national occurrence and one that occasionally affects us. We stop for lunch often near pubs to give those who prefer not to bring picnics somewhere to eat.
Planning permission was granted recently to Tesco, much to the dismay of many, to convert a disused pub in Godalming into a convenience store. The site was soon fenced off but since then the only sign of development has been the attachment of a notice to the boards. See photo.
Back in 2008 the new PM, Gordon Brown, was keen for a national motto. One suggestion was: Dipso, Fatso, Bingo, Asbo, Tesco.
