The arrival of autumn and the loss of leaves from deciduous trees means that views open up. Bracken is dying and mud is reappearing. Nettles have almost lost their sting. Horseflies, hooray, have long since gone. Guildford Cathedral is now visible from the top of Chinthurst Hill. Today, for the first time, I saw the Wembley Arch from the top of Pewley Down.
