Black Down ridge

On the top of Black Down

We had a good walk. Drizzle started half an hour after we started and lasted for about twenty minutes. After that the clouds cleared and we walked in sunshine. We encountered some muddy footpaths but none that bad.

Eleven of us met at the recreation ground on Scotland Lane in Haslemere for the six mile walk. The High Street was closed for the Christmas market but the diversion was well signed. The route took us south to Stedlands Farm, through Valewood Park to Wadesmarsh Farmhouse, over a field and through woodland to reach Cotchet Farm. Here we turned SE to reach the top of Black Down, then turned north to walk along the ridge and join the Sussex Border Path and head back to Valewood and the car park.

View NW from Black Dowm

We were fortunate in that by the time we reached the top of Black Down the sun had come out. Views were good, particularly to the NW. The radomes (a combination of radar and dome) of Oakhanger RAF station were clearly visible.
