Witley Park circular

Twenty-three arrived for today’s five mile walk. The instructions asked people to share cars because the car park was small. Few did but, with a bit of manoeuvring, all managed to squeeze their cars into the small space. I used a car park 1½ miles away and walked briskly to the start—the car park on Lea Coach Road.

We headed west along the road and continued west on a bridleway by The Shrubbery. The wall of Witley Park was on our left. At a junction of bridleways we turned left past Lake Cottages to reach French Lane where we turned left on this road and continued on it until we met the Greensand Way where it crossed the road. Here we turned east and stayed on the Greensand Way until we branched off it on a bridleway to Banacle Common and then turned north a footpath that went past Parsonage Farm and reached Lea Coach Road. From here it was less than a mile westwards across heathland and the A286 back to the car park.

It was a cold, crisp day but there was no rain, snow or ice and the mud was manageable.
