Temple of the Winds

Temple of the Winds

Snow lay in the car park at the start of this morning’s five mile walk. Seventeen of us met by the recreation ground on Scotland Lane in Haslemere. It was a cold day made colder by an icy wind.

We took the byway that led to Stedlands Farm and then turned left to walk on the Sussex Border Path through Valewood Park to Black Down. At a junction with a bridleway we turned right towards Cotchet Farm and then, at the farm, turned left to walk uphill to reach the Temple of the Winds where we stopped for coffee. By now we had warmed up and the sun had come out.

After our break we set off north along another bridleway and joined the Pen-y-Bos Track. This took us to Tennyson’s Lane at The Roughs. Here we turned left and walked along a footpath parallel to the road before turning right then left on another footpath which took us back to Scotland Lane and the car park.
