Coffee stop near the Punchbowl

Coffee stop near the Devil’s Punchbowl

Twenty-seven arrived for today’s six mile walk which started from the NT café in Hindhead. This was another record turn-out for a Sunday. What has happened? The weather wasn’t wonderful. It was cold and rain was forecast for the afternoon. We hoped to have completed the route by then but unfortunately the rain arrived two hours early.

From the café we set off on a footpath that took us down into the punchbowl, across a boardwalk and to a byway near the youth hostel. We continued north past Gnome Cottage, reached the Greensand Way and turned left on this towards Upper Highfield Farm. Here we took a footpath on our right that went across fields to Thursley where we joined the GSW again. We walked under the A3 then turned right to reach a footpath that took us past Bedford Farm and back to another underpass of the A3. Here we continued on the route of the old A3 and walked along it, in the rain, back to the car park.
