In spite of sunshine it was a cold day. Hats, gloves and scarves were needed. The leader told us there would be mud but not that much. She was wrong. There was a trench of it on one footpath. The back quarter of the group, seeing those in front struggling to wade through it, climbed up the bank and into a field and thus managed to avoid it.
Twenty-five turned up for the 5½ mile walk. We started from Shamley Green and headed past Tanyard Farm and up Reedhall Hill. At the top of the hill we turned right on a bridleway that went past Sandhurst Copse, over Farley Heath Road to Mayor House Farm. Just beyond this we turned right on a footpath that led to Winterfold Heath where we joined the Greensand Way. We stayed on the GSW and headed west back to Shamley Green.
