Godalming & Haslemere Ramblers

Hindhead Roam 639

Once again we were fortunate with the weather. Rain started last night but it stopped an hour before the start of this morning’s six mile walk. The leader took us on the new route (Roam 639) at the Devil’s Punch Bowl at Hindhead.

There were thirteen on the walk. We met at the NT café and completed the route uneventfully in spite of the soggy terrain. When we passed the Sailor’s Stone someone mentioned a novel, The Broom-Squire written by the Victorian author Sabine Baring-Gould, based on the event commemorated by the stone. Amazon have a free Kindle version.
