Chiddingfold circular

There was mud on today’s 6½ mile walk. Some of it was the sort that stuck to boots. However, there was a bit of sunshine and no rain. Conditions could have been worse. The leader had modified the route to avoid deep mud. Daffodils and primroses bloomed brightly and lambs ran about in fields.

The walk started from Coombe Common recreation ground. We (twenty-one) set off along Woodside Road and took a footpath that led past Noddings Farm, across a road, and on to Witley train station. Here we stopped for coffee and made ourselves at home on the benches as the station was deserted.

Setting off again we joined the Greensand Way eastwards. In Hambledon we left the GSW and headed south on a bridleway towards Hambledon Hurst and the A283. We crossed the main road, walked along the pavement to Chiddingfold and took a footpath on the left that joined another one parallel to the main road. At a minor road we turned right, walked past the post office, crossed the village green and took a footpath that led west past the churchyard to The Downs. Here we turned right on a footpath that led back to Coombe Common and the car park. There was much banging and scraping of boots before people set off home.
