This was our annual breakfast walk. We start early and stop half way round for breakfast rather than for lunch.

The meeting point today for the eight mile walk was the NT car park at Hindhead. Fifteen set off from there at 07.30. Another walker joined for the breakfast at The Wheatsheaf Inn in Grayswood and walked the second part of the route.

We headed south on the Greensand Way and branched off towards Weydown Common and Keffolds Farm. At a clearing we paused to admire the view and one of us leaned against a finger post for a brief rest. Suddenly there was a loud crack and the post tilted sideways. The leaner hastily stood upright; the rest of us laughed and laughed.

We reached the pub shortly before 09.30. The service was quick and the food was good. (Some admitted it was an unnecessary meal for them.) An hour later we were on our way. By the time we arrived back at the car park (just after 13.00) most were ready for a drink and a few were ready for more food.

On the walk I encountered my first horse fly of the summer. I flicked it away. Unfortunately another one spotted me and bit the palm of my left hand. That was its last bite.
