Twenty-eight turned up for this morning’s five mile walk. Just as some were wondering whether to take waterproof jackets, rain started and made the decision for them. Fortunately, it was little more than drizzle and stopped about half an hour later.

We met at the car park by the recreation ground on Scotland Lane and headed north to the B2131, crossed this and continued on a footpath that joined the Serpent Trail near Swan Barn Farm. Here we turned east and followed the footpath towards Holdfast, crossed Holdfast Lane and reached a bridleway near Imbhams Farm. We turned right on this, passed Furnace Place, took a footpath across a field, crossed a minor road and continued on a bridleway to Ansteadbrook. Having crossed the B2131 again we headed south on a bridleway and turned right on a footpath that crossed Hearne Copse and joined the Serpent Trail. We turned right on this and continued to the B2131. Here we took a minor road on the left that went uphill to Scotland Lane (with Haste Hill on the right). In ¼ mile we reached the car park.
