Walking Matters

Godalming & Haslemere Ramblers

South Downs Way

Today’s twelve mile walk was easy to follow on the map. We met at Washington car park off the A24 and headed east on the South Downs Way until it met the Monarch’s Way where we turned west on that and continued to Findon. Having crossed the A24 we stopped for a picnic lunch in Findon churchyard. Half an hour later we set off again, crossed the A280 and branched off the MW on a byway that joined the SDW east of Sullington Hill. Turning east on the SDW we continued on that back to the car park.

The sky was grey and overcast all the time but the views were good; to the south we could see the sea. It was a warm day and for once the men on the walk outnumbered the women (4/3). We kept up a good pace and completed the circuit in 4½ hours.
