Thirty arrived for today’s ten mile walk. This surprised the leader as she hadn’t expected so many. However, she coped as did the pub which served lunch for half the group while the rest ate picnics in a nearby field.
The morning was sunny and warm. Those who set off wearing thick fleece jackets soon had to take them off. The afternoon was overcast and cooler but still mild enough for jackets to be unnecessary.
We met at the car park on the A286 by the South Downs Way and headed west along the SDW. At Cocking Down we branched left by a huge rock and continued on a bridleway, turned left through Venus Wood and then turned right to pass Rabbit Warren and Colworth Down. We reached a minor road and turned right, passed Staple Ash Farm and Yew Tree Cottage and turned right on a footpath that led to Monkton Farm. Here we turned left on a footpath that took us to Hooksway, our stop for lunch.
After lunch we headed NE on a bridleway that joined the SDW. We continued NE on the SDW and followed this back to the car park.
