Today’s walk was a repeat of the one last Wednesday. There were fewer walkers today (21 compared with 31 last week) and more mud. It was noisy mud but, fortunately, not the sort that sucked at ones’s boots. That will appear before long. We squelched along footpaths and across fields. In the afternoon we climbed over many stiles. One person remarked that the route seemed like a steeplechase.
At the end of the walk the leader invited us in for tea and cakes. We were too polite to decline her hospitality. There were scones with homemade raspberry jam, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate brownies, and date and prune tea bread. Needless to say we cleared most of the plates.
In the evening some of us expect to feast on more cake—with our eyes this time—watching the final of the Great British Bake Off.
