Twelve people arrived for today’s ten mile walk which was surprising given the weather. It was raining, and this was unlikely to stop until late afternoon. One person, once out of the comfort of her car, lost resolve and went home. By the time the eleventh had signed the attendance list, the sheet of paper had almost turned to pulp.

Our stop for lunch was in Micklelam. Four ate in the pub and started to dry out. The others ate picnics in the church porch and stayed damp.

We met in the NT car park on Ranmore Common Road and headed north on the footpath across Ranmore Common. At Tanners Hatch Youth Hostel we turned right on a bridleway and continued to Polesden Road. From here we walked NE on a byway, turned right, SE, on a bridleway, branched north on another one that skirted round round Denshire Hill, passed Roaring House Farm before turning right on another bridleway that crossed woodland near Norbury Park and reached the A24 at Micklelam.

After lunch we headed west (the rain, fortunately, had subsided to light drizzle), joined the Mole Gap Trail, continued on it to the North Downs Way and followed this back to the car park.
