Amberley amble

For today’s nine mile walk we met at Amberley station, took the train to Ford and then walked back to Amberley along the west bank of the River Arun. Buying our tickets from the machine on the platform was a test of our intelligence, and patience. I gave up after two prolonged attempts with cash and bought my ticket from the guard on the train. (At least the machine returned my money.) The others used credit cards and all were eventually successful.

From Ford station we (eleven) set off south on Ford Road to the footpath that connected to the path that ran along the west bank of the river. We followed this to Arundel where we stopped for lunch. Strong winds and muddy terrain made the going difficult.

After lunch we continued along the west bank to South Stoke, crossed over the river by a bridge, walked to North Stoke and returned to Amberley by Stoke Road.
