Hydon Heath circular

The leader guaranteed plenty of mud on this morning’s five mile walk. He wore Wellington boots as did one other person put off by the description. The rest of us wore walking boots and, apart from one person whose boots had holes in them, our feet stayed dry. The mud was not that deep.

We met at Hydon Heath NT car park as did another group which caused slight confusion at first. We set off across Hydon Heath, skirted round Hydon’s Ball, passed the pumping station and joined the Greensand Way by Hambledon church. Here we turned left on the GSW and continued on it to The Hurtwood before branching off north on a bridleway. We crossed Mare Lane, passed Hascombe Court (still the site of much building), turned left on a bridleway by the B2130, reached Juniper Valley and turned left on a footpath that led back to the car park.

It was a cold, cloudy, windy morning. Fortunately, no rain fell on us and no trees fell on our cars.
