Godalming circular

It was a mild, grey, damp day. Slight drizzle just before the start of the morning’s five mile walk soon stopped. The weather was a pleasant change from that on the previous walk. There was no deep mud and no stiles so we made good progress.

Twenty-three turned up. Many were glad to be out to walk off excess food eaten over the past few days.

We set off from Crown Court car park in Godalming (still free on Sundays), headed uphill to Holloway Hill recreation ground, walked along Grosvenor Road, took an alleyway to Park Road, passed Busbridge church, went along a bridleway then footpath to Munstead Heath Road, crossed this, continued on a muddy bridleway to a footpath on the left which took us further down Munstead Heath Road. Here we joined a bridleway that headed north past Catteshall Manor. At the end of the bridleway we turned right, and then turned right again at a minor road. At Tannachie we turned left, crossed the River Wey Navigation and followed the towing path back to Godalming.
