Shackleford circular

A large crowd gathered for the five mile walk this morning. The turnout was 44, a record. The leader, the sunshine and the festive overindulgence probably contributed.

We met at the car park in Shackleford, rapidly filled it and spread out along the road. The leader took us on bridleways to Norney, along a pavement under the A3 towards Hurtmore, SE on a bridleway to a junction of paths where we continued on a bridleway past Eashing Copse, turned right, crossed over the A3 and walked across fields to Peper Harow where we stopped at the church for coffee. Some sat, some stood; all chatted in sunshine.

From Peper Harow we headed NW across a field on a footpath that took us to a road. We crossed this, continued to Warren Lodge on a permissive path, joined a bridleway to a road, turned right and walked along the road for about 150 meters to a path on the left. This crossed Mitchen Hall Plantation. At a byway we turned right, branched left on a footpath across a field, reached a minor road, turned left, walked past Aldro School, turned right at a T junction and returned back to the car park. The sun was still shining.
