Mud was back to normal on today’s walks. The icy conditions earlier in the week had gone and the temperature had risen to 10°C. There was no sunshine but there was no rain either. Twenty-eight turned up for the morning six mile walk; twelve stayed for the afternoon four mile walk and one more person joined them.
We met at the car park in Shere and headed for Little London via the allotments and up the grassy (now muddy) slope that’s part of the Shere Millennium Trail. After the William IV pub we took a footpath just before the railway bridge, crossed Albury Heath and Albury Warren, headed south to Ford Farm, joined a track that took us to Blackheath Forest, turned left on a footpath to Broomfields and then followed the Fox Way back to Shere. The Fox Way is a 39 mile route round Guildford.
After lunch we headed north on a byway, walked under the A25, branched left on a bridleway on the west side of Netley Plantation, joined the North Downs Way and turned left. At The Boxwood we joined the Fox Way again, turned south and continued on this back to Shere.
