Walking Matters

Godalming & Haslemere Ramblers

Hindhead circular

Yesterday there were brief periods of sunshine followed by rain and sleet. Today there was sunshine all morning so conditions were good for our five mile walk. There was little mud on footpaths and some were dry enough for fallen leaves to remain crunchy.

Thirty arrived for the start at the NT car park in Hindhead. We headed south on the Greensand Way to Polecat Valley and then turned east to climb out of the valley before heading north to Gibbet Hill. At the site of the Temple of the Four Winds we stopped for coffee and then continued north to cross the route of the old A3 and take the byway west to Highcombe Farm. We passed the Youth Hostel (now closed) , crossed Highcombe Bottom and walked up the steep slope of the bridleway back to the car park.
