Thursley Common circular

Twenty-nine arrived for the start of this morning’s five mile walk on Thursley Common. Part of the boardwalk was being repaired so the group couldn’t walk on all of the boardwalk as the leader had intended.

The first half of the walk followed the Heath Trail to the bridleway that crosses the common from east to west. From here we continued SE on a sandy track. This crossed a bridleway, went uphill, turned SW and took us to the top of the hill where we turned left on a bridleway, walked downhill towards Hammer Pond, turned north to a junction of bridleways by a house, turned west and took another track that led to the Heath Trail. From here we retraced our steps back to the car park.

A notable sight, apart from Bog asphodel and heather (three types) in flower and Silver-studded Blue butterflies, was that of an Airbus A400M Atlas which circled round three times overhead.
