The new version of the map used for today’s ten mile walk has been renumbered. It is now OL 32. Last year Ordnance Survey changed the numbering of some of its maps. For example, the Chichester map, previously Explorer 120, is now Explorer OL 8. This might cause problems when we give the number of the map for some of our walks.
Twenty-five of us set off from Itchen Abbas and followed the Itchen Way to Itchen Stoke and New Alresford where we met the B3046 and headed for the centre of the town. Here we stopped for lunch. Along the bank of the River Itchen we spotted unusual (for us) yellow-flowering plants. They were Impatiens noli-tangere.
After lunch we headed NW to join the Wayfarer’s Walk and stayed on this to Itchen Stoke Down where we continued NW on the Oxgrove Way for just under a mile before turning left and heading south on a bridleway. We reached a lane, turned right and then turned left on a footpath that went across a field to Rectory Lane. Here we turned left, walked down the lane to a footpath on the right which took us back to Itchen Abbas.
