Puttenham Common circular

There were 28 on this morning’s five mile walk. Paths were so dry that we raised a small cloud of dust as we walked.

From the Tarn car park we walked through Britty Wood and Crooksbury Common to Charleshill, turned east on a bridleway to Gatwick, continued towards Mitchen Hall Plantation, headed north to Rodsall Manor, turned west to Cuttmill Pond and walked back to the car park.

We stopped for coffee in a clearing near Charleshill. There was good scenery but an unpleasant smell, one suggestive of pigs. There were none in sight until a mound of earth moved and a pig, a big one, stood up. We spotted another one; this stayed stretched out on the ground. They might have been Oxford Sandy and Black pigs.
