Twelve of us set off from Rowlands Castle for the ten mile linear walk. We headed for Stansted Park and stopped at the tearoom there for refreshment. Few held back. By now the clouds had cleared, the sun had emerged and the temperature had risen. In Stansted Park we passed the new memorial to the Canadian airman who died when his plane, a Typhoon, crashed in the park in 1944.
We resumed the walk, joined the Sussex Border Path and followed this to Emsworth where we stopped for more food (lunch, and ice creams).
After lunch we headed west on the Wayfarer’s Walk, turned right on a footpath near Wade Court Park, reached the route of a disused railway line and took this to Havant railway station. Here four returned to Rowlands Castle by taxi; the rest returned home by train.
