Rowlands Castle figure of 8

After a cool start the clouds cleared and we had a day of warm sunshine. Paths were damp but mud was yet to be a nuisance. The morning route was five miles; the afternoon one was four miles.

We (11) met at Rowlands Castle railway station, headed west to enter Havant Thicket (Forest of Bere) by Manor Lodge Road, walked through woodland and stopped in Staunton Country Park for coffee by The Lake. After this we joined the Staunton Way and headed NE to a crossroads where we took the minor road back to Rowlands Castle.

After lunch two people left and one more joined us. We headed east towards Stansted Forest, walked through this to Stansted House and the tea room where we stopped for more refreshment before heading west on the Sussex Border Path back to the station.
