St Swithun’s Way: New Alresford to Chawton

Two enterprising people in the group have organised four walks on consecutive Wednesdays along St Swithun’s Way. Last week’s route was from Winchester to New Alresford. Today’s was from New Alresford to Chawton.

We (17) started from the public car park in Chawton and walked to the bus stop near the A31 to catch the 64 to New Alresford (to the stop by the Co-op). From here we joined SSW and walked eleven miles back to Chawton. We stopped three times for refreshment: in Bishop’s Sutton we had coffee in the pub; in Ropley we had picnics in the churchyard (the church was destroyed by fire in June 2014) and hot drinks from the village shop; in Four Marks, about 1½ hours later, we had tea and cake in the café of the garden centre.
