Shere and surrounds

There were 27 on this morning’s 6½ mile walk. No one got left behind.

We set off from the public car park by the A25 near Silent Pool, crossed the road without mishap, walked on the pavement of Albury Street (A248) to Albury, turned south on a footpath that joined Warren Lane, continued south on that for a short distance before branching right on a footpath across Albury Warren. The chapel on St Martha’s Hill, visible on a clear day, was hidden by low cloud. We headed downhill to Pond Farm, turned left and then turned right on a sandy track that took us into Blackheath Forest. At a junction with another footpath we turned left towards Broomfields and Brook. In Brook we walked along Ponds Lane, turned left onto a byway, continued to a minor road, turned left then right onto a footpath, crossed another minor road, turned right then left onto a bridleway, branched left from this on a footpath that crossed the railway line by a bridge and continued on to Shere. Here we stopped for coffee.

Fortified by the refreshment we returned to the car park by the Fox Way.
