There was another high turnout on this morning’s five mile walk—34. All got round the circuit without mishap. Paths were dry; many were covered with leaves which crunched underfoot. There was an overnight frost again though none remained on the route. The two hairy pigs in a smallholding near the start of the walk, which had greeted the leader earlier in the week when she checked the route, came trotting over to inspect the group as it walked past.
We met at the car park off Church Lane in Witley, crossed the A283 to a footpath which passed the smallholding and led to Great Enton, headed SE across Hambledon Field, turned south over Buss’s Common, joined the Greensand Way and followed it east to Hambledon. At Beech Hill we turned south, reached a minor road, turned right and continued on that to the village shop where we stopped for coffee. We sat outside in sunshine.
Our return route was via Hambledon Common, Hambledon Park, Sweetwater Pond, under the railway line, over the A283 by the Chichester Hall and north along the road to Church Lane. After the walk eight people had lunch in Squires Garden Centre to make use of vouchers for two meals for the price of 1½.
