Walking Matters

Godalming & Haslemere Ramblers

Shamley Green circular

Fog grounded planes at Heathrow but did not deter ramblers on this morning’s 5½ mile walk. The turn out was larger than the leaders expected given the weather. Thirty-five arrived at the start in Shamley Green. The head-count by three people agreed with the number on the register which was as remarkable as the attendance.

We headed for the Greensand Way via the back of the church, continued to Bisney Cottage and Run Farm, crossed the Downs Link to Whipley Manor Farm, crossed the A281, continued west on a lane past Goose Green Farm, Selhurst Common and Wintershall, turned right on a bridleway past Gatestreet Farm and Lea Farm, joined the GSW again and followed this back to Shamley Green.

The triple chocolate buckwheat cookies brought for our coffee break were appreciated though whether this was due to the quality of the baking or to the emptiness of the stomachs was not clear.
