Twenty-one people arrived for the walk, more than the leader expected considering the weather—damp, foggy and cold, though less cold than of late. There was plenty of mud today.

We set off from the car park opposite the White Horse (closed for refurbishment), joined the Greensand Way and headed west on that. A small section of the GSW near the eastern edge of The Hurtwood has been rerouted and a large area of trees felled. At Upper Vann Lane we left the GSW, headed south, turned east to Burgate Farm where we passed a large pile of mangelwurzels, turned NE to Markwick Farm, crossed Markwick Lane, took a footpath along the south side of The Hurtwood past The Raswell, reached the B2130, crossed the road and headed back to the pub on tracks through woodland.

The morning walk was 5 miles. The afternoon part of the walk (4 miles) was up and round Hascombe Hill.
