Walking Matters

Godalming & Haslemere Ramblers

Puttenham, Crooksbury

There was remarkably little mud on yesterday morning’s 5½ mile walk. The surface of the car park where we met, Puttenham Common upper car park, was so dry that gusts of wind raised clouds of dust.

Twenty-nine arrived for the walk and soon discovered that the car park, being exposed on the top of a hill, was a cold windy place. We were glad to set off downhill to escape the wind. The leader took us west past The Tarn, through Britty Wood, across Crooksbury Common, south towards Charleshill, east past Fulbrook Farm, Broomfields and Gatwick, and then north past Rodsall Manor and back to the car park. It was still windy there but by now we’d warmed up. Our coffee stop was by a small-holding where two large pigs, possibly Oxford Sandy & Blacks, foraged in mud.
