Walking Matters

Godalming & Haslemere Ramblers

Blackheath & Albury Heath

Not only were footpaths on this morning’s five mile walk bone dry but grass next to the path in one field had started to go brown.

Nineteen met for the start in the car park in Blackheath. The leader, conducting her first walk, took us east across Blackheath Forest to Broomfields. Here, we were glad to note, the rickety stile had been replaced with a metal gate. Leaving the forest briskly, for once, we headed for Brook on the Fox Way and then turned right on Ponds Lane. At a byway we turned left, crossed the railway line, briefly rejoined the FW and then headed west on Park Road. We branched left to bypass the road and walked in Albury Heath to a clearing where we stopped for coffee.

We continued west, crossed a lane to the sports ground, continued across Albury Warren on a bridleway, turned south to Ford Farm, continued west on a footpath past the fish farm, joined another footpath by Blackheath Lane, reached Postford Farm Cottages, turned left to Blackheath Forest and continued back to the car park.
