Kingston to Swanage

We were still able to walk today after a three-course supper last night and a huge breakfast this morning. Some managed a cream tea this afternoon (the next large meal being at least four hours away).

Both walks started from Kingston and followed the Purbeck Way south to Hill Bottom. Here the short walkers (18) turned east on a lane to Renscombe Farm and then continued south on a bridleway to St Aldhelm’s Head. After a break to look at St Aldhelm’s Chapel and the coastguard station they headed east on the South West Coast Path, stopped at the old quarry at Winspit for lunch and then headed north to Worth Matravers where they stopped for more refreshment.

The coach arrived to take them back to Swanage. However, nine were keen to carry on walking; having walked six miles they were ready for another four. They waved goodbye to the coach and set off east on the Priest’s Way and followed it to Swanage.

There was sunshine all day with scarcely a cloud in the sky. Footpaths were dry which was fortunate because some would be slippery when wet.
